organised by DTC Conferences is part of the DTA Series of conferences
which started in 2004. DTA 2010 designed under the theme "Technology
- The Force Differentiator" aimed to bring leading
Defence Organisations and their domain experts in face to face
interactions with regional navies and their decision makers
to discuss naval technology innovations and facilitate better
understanding of the needs of the Navies in the region.
Guest-of-Honour for DTA 2010 was RADM Chew Men Leong,
Chief of Navy, Republic of Singapore with keynote addresses
by RADM Eng Onofrio Flagiello, National Armaments Directorate,
Chief of R&T Department, Italian Navy, Dr Francois-Regis
Martin-Lauzer, Director of NURC, CAPT Jonas Haggren,
Commanding Officer 1st Submarine Flotilla, Swedish Armed Forces.
2010 was graced by the Ambassador of Italy, His Excellency,
Mr Analecto Felicani and the Charge d' Affaires of the
Ukraine Embassy,Mr Vsevolod Mytsyk.
attendees for DTA 2010 included around 180 delegates from the
Republic of Singapore Navy, 80 odd delegates from DSTA,
DSO-NL and the Ministry of Defence, Singapore.
DTA 2010 was also attended by Senior Officers leading delegations
from regional navies.
Indonesian Navy, the delegation was led by RADM Marsetio
- Commander Western Fleet. He was accompanied by First Admiral
Iwan Kustiawan, COL Bambang Nargono, COL Indarganto
and Leut Panca.
Royal Malaysian Navy, the delegation comprised of CDR
Fairul Nizam Bin Md Fadzah and CDR Wan Alias Bin Wan
Royal Thai Navy, the delegation was led by Admiral
Nibhon Chagsudulya - Deputy Commander in Chief. He was accompanied
by Captain Narate Wongtragoon, Deputy Commanding Officer
of Flotilla 1, Amphibious Squadron, Royal Thai Fleet.
Vietnam People Navy, the delegation was led by Senior
Captain Nguyen Duc Nho, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff. He
was accompanied by CAPT Bui Trung Tan - Deputy Head of
Foreign Relation Department.
Key sponsors attendees include large delegations from Finmeccanica
led by Mr Pietro Bruno, Vice President, Asia-Pacific,
Commercial Affairs Dept; WASS led by its Managing Director,
Dr Renzo Lunardi; Thales led by Mr Laurent Mayer,

The first day morning session consisted of an opening address
by our Guest of Honour - RADM Chew Men Leong and was followed
by keynote addresses by RADM Onofrio Flagiello and CAPT Jonas
Haggren. This was followed by DTA 2010 Exclusive - CEO 360 Defence
Outlook by COL(R) Ratan Shrivastava, Consultant, Aerospace and
Defence, India, Frost and Sullivan who were Knowledge Partners
for DTA 2010.
At 1010am of the first day, the DTA 2010 Exhibition was officially
opened by our Guest-of-Honour, RADM Chew Men Leong. This year's
exhibition was participated by WASS, Eurotorp, MTU, Sea &
Land Technology, Hann-Ocean Technology, SAFT, Elettronica, Selex
Sistemi Integrati, Curtiss-Wright Controls-Indal Technologies,
Ultra Electronics, e-GEOS, Frost and Sullivan and Gates Logistics.
The opening of Exhibition and the Coffee Break was followed
by DTA 2010 - MARITIME SECURITY DIALOGUE - co chaired by LTC
Chow Ngee Ken Stephen, Group Commander, Maritime Security Task
Force Singapore and COL(R) Ratan Shrivastava from Frost and
Sullivan. This unique dialogue consisted of papers from e-GEOS
on application of Satellite Technology in Maritime Security,
SELEX Sistemi Integrati on unique solution to Situational Awareness
Protection and SAAB Electronic Defence System presenting a paper
on optimum Radar solution for Naval and Coast Guard Mission.
The final paper was by NURC on Underwater Automated Identification
Systems for deconfliction of Submarine and Surface Assets. This
was followed by a lively discussion led by the LTC Chow and
This session was followed by Lunch during which the delegates
got to network in the ambiance of the DTA 2010 Exhibition.
After Lunch, the conference broke up into two tracks - One on
Naval Surface and Submarine ASW with an in-depth focus on Emerging
Platform Technologies. This session was chaired by Principal
Engineer Andy Tay, Deputy Head Naval Logistics (Platform Systems),
Naval Logistics Dept, Republic of Singapore Navy. Presentations
were made by TKMS, Curtiss-Wright Controls-Indal Technologies,
Germanischer Lloyd, Thales and Eurotorp.
The parallel session on Unmanned Vehicles & Systems had
special focus on USV Platforms and Technologies; chaired by
Mr George Loh, Head (Maritime Systems), Defence Research &
Technology Office, Ministry of Defence, Singapore. This session
saw presentations by DSO National Laboratories, Italian Ministry
of Defence, ST Electronics, NUS Acoustic Research Laboratory
A networking Coffee Break followed before the conference carried
on with two tracks. One track dealt with Naval Surface Ships
with in-depth focus on Advanced Maintenance Strategies chaired
by Mr Lam Yen Chin, Deputy Vice President, Germanischer Lloyd
AG. Papers were presented by Republic of Singapore Navy, Germanischer
Lloyd and MTU Asia.
In parallel, the second session dealt with in-depth analysis
of AUV Platforms and Technologies relating to Unmanned Vehicles
and Systems. The session was chaired by Mr Goh Ing Nam, Program
Manager for Underwater Sensors, DSO National Laboratories and
papers were presented by Thales, DSO National Laboratories and
SAAB Underwater Systems.
Day one ended with a very successful VIP Cocktail Reception
co-sponsored by ECA and Oto Melara for 120 invited delegates
and participants at the Equinox, situated on level 69 of the
Swissotel, The Stamford. With the spectacular views of Singapore,
Malaysia and part of Indonesia, and a well-received singing
band performance by POWER of 2, our DTA 2010 guests spent the
evening in a social setting catching up with old friends and
meeting new members of the international Naval Technology community.The
VIP Cocktail was attended by Mr Jean-Jacques Periou,
Vice President, Commercial & Marketing, ECA and Mr Luca
Lonoce, Asia Ocania Regional Manager, Sales and Marketing,
Day 2 of DTA 2010 started with a keynote address by Dr Francois-Regis
Martin-Lauzer, Director, NATO Undersea Research Centre on Maritime
Surveillance and Intervention.

Mahindra SSG on Internal Security Awareness of key stakeholders:
Role of People and Technology.

Asia Pacific, Mr Julius Yeo delivered the 2nd DTA 2010 Exclusive
paper on Asia Pacific Naval Communication Market.
After a brief Coffee Break and Conference Networking Session,
DTA 2010 presented the NAVAL TECHNOLOGY ROUNDTABLE - TECHNOLOGY
THE FORCE DIFFERENTIATOR session. It was chaired by Mr Raffaele
Liberati - Italian national representative in Europe Defence
Agency Radio Frequency Committee. The distinguished panellists
were RADM Onofrio Flagiello, Dr Francois-Regis Martin-Lauzer,
CAPT Jonas Haggren and COL(R) Ratan Shrivastava. After a lively
discussion with an international perspective, the delegates
went for lunch and networking before resuming the afternoon's

on Weapons. This session was chaired by Mr Lionel Mun Kok Leong,
Deputy Head Naval Underwater Warfare Centre, Republic of Singapore
Navy. Papers were presented by Eurotorp, WASS, MBDA and Kockums.
The parallel session on Naval Surface Ships had special focus
on Platforms and Platform Systems. This was chaired by Dr Lars
Grunitz, Senior Manager, Naval Services, Germanischer Lloyd
AG. Papers in this session were presented by US Navy, TKMS/Kockums,
MTU and Hann-Ocean Group.
After a short Coffee Break, the conference went to its final
two tracks. One track was on Naval Surface Ships and Submarine
& ASW with special focus on Sensors and Electronics Warfare.
This important track was chaired by LTC Teng Haw Kiad, Head,
Electronic Warfare Branch, Republic of Singapore Navy. Papers
during this session were presented by Elettronica, Thales and
Selex Sistemi Integrati Spa.
The parallel session with special focus on Advanced Systems
was chaired by Mr Lim Soon Tein, Vice President (Operations),
Systems & Engineering Group, ST Electronics Pte Ltd. During
this session, papers were presented by WASS, SAFT, Ultra Electronics
The conference ended at 5pm and the delegates returned back
to their normal duties greatly enriched by these two days of
networking and presentations from some of the leading Naval
Technology Organisations from around the world.
DTA 2010 saw the participation of about 400 delegates from Singapore,
the South East Asian Region and around the world. A total of
23 International and Regional organisations were involved in
the two days of conference. During DTA 2010, a total of 46 papers
were presented in the three areas of Naval Surface Ships, Unmanned
Vehicles and Systems and Submarine and ASW. DTA 2010 brought
a special emphasis on Maritime Security Dialogue.
